Shiffermiller, Kassie McKie

Kassie McKie Shiffermiller focuses her practice on litigation, education, and employment law, and is frequently appointed to represent abused and neglected children.  She is also a writer/contributor for 50 Employment Laws in 50 States (published by Business & Legal Resources) and the 50-State Survey: Employment, Libel and Privacy Law (published by the Medial Law Resource Center).  She is licensed to practice in all state and federal courts in South Dakota.

Kassie is a native of Rapid City. In 2011, she earned her bachelor’s degree, magna cum laude, from Western Carolina University (WCU), where she was a track and field athlete, specializing in the pole vault.  Kassie obtained her law degree from the University of South Dakota in 2014, and joined Lynn Jackson that same year. 

Kassie has written countless articles on employment law topics for the South Dakota Employment Law Letter and the HR Daily Advisor.  She is a member of the South Dakota, Pennington County, and American Bar Associations.  Kassie is a board member for Black Hills Area Community Foundation, a member of Black Hills Impact Giving Circle, and a volunteer for the Oglala Pet Project.  She is collaborating with the Pennington County State’s Attorney’s Office and the Courthouse Dogs Foundation to establish a program for providing comfort dogs for children and vulnerable witnesses. 

Kassie is a dog-lover and frequently fosters dogs that have been recently rescued.  She and her husband Adam enjoy the great outdoors of the Black Hills.
